Bruce Overstreet for County Council

We're better together

I was born in Everett and raised in Marysville and Everett. My mother, Myrna, taught at Everett Community College and was one of the founders of the Imagine Children’s Museum. My father, Bob, owned a local printing company and served on the Everett City Council for 30 years.

My parents taught my siblings and me the importance of public service. I was an English and social studies teacher in the Everett School District for 35 years. In addition to teaching, I served as a Student Advisor, Activities Coordinator, and Athletic Coordinator. At Everett High School, I was the head coach of the girls’ and boys’ cross-country teams, as well as an assistant track and basketball coach.

I have three grown children. Two of them are teachers, too.

My public service includes serving on Snohomish County Tomorrow Citizen Advisory Board, the City of Everett’s Community Block & Development Grant Committee, the Snohomish County Boys & Girls’ Club, the Everett Museum of History Board, and For the Cure NW Board.

My Priorites

Public safety

Keeping Us Safe

The primary responsibility of local government is to keep us safe. Calls to defund the police are irresponsible. I support our local police officers and sheriff deputies. As a member of the County Council, I will insist our deputies maintain the highest level of training and accountability. I also support requiring deputies to wear body cameras.

Housing

Attainable Home Ownership

Politicians talk about affordable housing, but what does that mean? It means different things to different people based on their income. I believe everyone who desires to buy a home should have the opportunity to buy a home regardless of their income. I will work hard to make home ownership a reality for more people.

Protecting Our Environment

We are blessed to live in a beautiful corner of the world. We must help address climate change on the local level and protect habitat for salmon and wildlife. I am committed to protecting our environment for future generations.

Testimonials

I was on the Everett High School Cross Country Team. Coach Overstreet instilled in me the importance of training, dedication, and perseverance through great challenges. These lessons have helped me to be successful in life. I will be forever grateful for his coaching and mentoring.

Community Service

COVID disrupted our lives, and events like high school graduations were postponed. I was privileged to help hand out their diplomas, caps, and gowns to honor Everett High seniors at a drive through. While it did not replace a formal graduation, students appreciated our efforts.
